Tour Booking
An application to explore and book travel packages with destination browsing, package selection, and booking management.
01. The Problem
A local tour operator needed to move their booking process online — customers had to call or visit in person to check availability and book, creating friction and limiting reach beyond local customers.
02. The Solution
A web portal where customers browse curated tour packages with detailed itineraries, check availability by date, and complete bookings online. The admin panel allows the operator to manage packages, availability, and bookings.
03. Architecture & Tech Decisions
React SPA frontend consuming a Node.js/Express REST API. Booking data stored in a structured database with relationships between users, tour packages, and reservations.
04. Testing Strategy
End-to-end booking flow tested manually across multiple browsers. Edge cases like double-booking the last available slot, booking cancellations, and capacity limits were specifically validated.
05. Deployment
Deployed to cloud hosting with the API and frontend served from separate origins. CORS configured to only allow requests from the production frontend domain.
06. Lessons Learned
Calendar and booking UX is harder than it looks. Users have high expectations from tools like Airbnb and Booking.com, so even a simple booking system needs careful attention to date selection UX.
